Food Experiment

Since becoming a mother of my two girls, I have felt the importance of feeding and teaching them about a healthy life style. With this interest I am always looking for more information and to share what I learned. I'm so excited to share with you what I have learned these past few years, here on Simply Healthful.

This post idea all started a few months ago when I watched the Jaime Oliver Food Revolution. I was particularly shocked by the first episode when Jamie Oliver took all the food a particular family ate in one week and presented it to them on their kitchen table. This family had major over weight health issues for both parents and children. Not only was I shocked, but the family was astonished by what they ate. For example there were homemade doughnuts, frozen pizzas, french fries, and all other sorts of fried food. It was disgusting!

Seeing this I started to think about doing my own experiment. Instead of piling up all the food my family ate in one week, I decided to try a one day food experiment for myself. Also, I thought it might be more cost effective if I took pictures of my meals during the day and made a food collage of the results. So here is one of my mostly normal day of eating.

Just a quick explanation of two breakfasts, I start my normal day at 3:30 with a trip to the gym, so I have a smoothie after that and then by the time I make breakfast for my girls, I'm usually ready for something to eat.

Also, we had an impromptu dinner at my husband's parents for his Dad's birthday and I forgot the camera. I did however have a picture from what I prepped it at home.

So, here is my question to you...What would your collage look like? Do you think you are truly honest with yourself about what you eat during your day?

Rich Chocolate Pudding

You may be surprised by the main ingredient of this rich chocolate pudding but I promise no one will even know!

2 ripe medium AVOCADOS!!!
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup agave
1 tsp pure vanilla

Blend the insides of the avocados in a food processor or blender in till smooth. Add the remanding ingredients and process again till fully blended. Your pudding should turn out to be smooth, rich, and chocolaty! You may enjoy right away but it's better served chilled. This is also delicious topped with bananas, strawberries or even raspberries. Enjoy!

* Verdict from my kid taste testers ~ I served this to four kids ages 10, 7, 5 and 3. Next time I will double the recipe because they all LOVED IT! They were absolutely clueless it was made from avocado. My 10 year old hates, I mean HATES avocado and he was licking him bowl asking for more. I will be keeping this one a secret for awhile, but I sure can't wait to tell him. ;)
